Kenmare Shamrocks

East Kerry League
Kenmare 5-11 Scartaglin 1-7
A good win in the end, Scartaglin running out of steam in the second half as the new season got underway in sunny Rathmore…and lovely it was though the ‘reeks are still dusted with snow.
This game was very tight in the first half and I think we could have gone to the break with some doubts only for the bravery of Kevin O’Sullivan sliding for a lost ball to pop it to Shane O’Sullivan and he produced a great finish to the net just on the half time whistle. All the more important because Denis Lenihan had just bagged a goal for Scart.
The second half was really all Kenmare with David Hallissey putting in a solid stint in midfield, Séanie O’Leary putting in one good kick pass after another, bringing Mark Crowley into the game, and Fionan O’Sullivan adding to his first half total to finish the game with an impressive 1-8 beside his name.
Some great team scores in the second period, David Hallissey fetching for Kevin Arthur, he fed Fionan and he finished to the net when the ‘scart ‘keeper got to Fionan’s shot. Mark Crowley ‘s goal came from great tackling from our forwards with Shane Dalton eventually intercepting, and Fionan’s 50th minute goal came through Séanie, Gavin O’Shea and Rory before it hit the net.

Football back on our weekend calendars, both club and county and great to see Stephen O’Brien in the Kerry jersey against both against Mayo and Derry. Kerry and Mayo will both be in the mix for National League champions and many people have gone for one or the other in the Kenmare Shamrocks Sports Forecast competition which will be decided in the last week in November. Points to be picked up in many events between now and then and thanks to all who got behind the club for this fundraiser.

On the 28th of February the Kenmare Board Na nOg will be holding at Table Quiz in Foleys, starting at 9pm. Each table of 4 costs €40 and with big numbers participating in underage training it would be great to have a big crowd on the night.
