Team BOS ‘reel’ in the titles!

32 dancers from the Bernie O’Sullivan School of Irish Dancing, Kenmare, travelled to Düsseldorf, Germany to participate in various competitions over a 4 day event; WIDA European and World Championships and European Grade Féis.
A bus filled with eager, nervous and excited dancers, their parents and their mentor Bernie, departed Kenmare on Wednesday with lots of hopes and goals. They returned on Monday with achievements beyond their wildest dreams, two European Champions and two contestants with both a European and a World Title each! Along with various 2nd, 3rd and other significant placements throughout!
A bus filled with ecstatic kids, very proud (and exhausted) parents and a beaming teacher, returned to bonfires, flags, fire service escort and an enormous welcome home party in The Square packed with their families, friends, supporters, Jerry from Kerry Radio, Michael Healy Rae TD and Cllr Dan McCarthy, and many more. A huge thanks to each and everyone one of you for the rapturous welcome; in particular the many Dad’s who helped organise it all.
Some of the outstanding achievements included our European Grade Feis in which we had Niamh Finnegan, Niamh, Roisin and Eoghan Llewelyn Serena O Sullivan, Jasmine Durkin, Laura Potoski, Leah Donovan and Laura Wiley.
Results placed all our dancers in key positions on the podium throughout, with several 1st places resulting in these dancers qualifying to higher dance categories for future competitions.

As well as all the highs, we had some lows to contend with too. Katie Quill was unable to dance due to illness, Rachel Whelton, Emer Finnegan and Jack O’Sullivan were all injured prior to travelling and unable to compete. However Jack was the hero on the day and managed to step in for the Céilí team in their hour of need! Well done Jack!
Great credit is due to all injured parties as they proudly supported and cheered on their team mates throughout despite their great disappointment in not being able to compete themselves. Great sportsmanship !
We are extremely proud of each and every one of our competitors for their excellent performances, display of great sportsmanship, team spirit and great behaviour throughout!
A huge thank you to their teacher Bernie O’Sullivan who goes over and beyond the call of duty ensuring each of her dancers are more than prepared for competition and dance to the best of their ability!
Bring on Brighton, UK, 2016, and go team BOS!
