A new endeavour highlighting the architectural heritage of Kenmare is to be launched

L_ROY_04687 this year with the publication of a booklet
documenting the heritage features of Main Street, Kenmare.
The booklet is compiled by Frank Hughes, Conservation Architect, and designed by award winning Dennison Designs, Kenmare. The heritage project is devised and co-ordinated by local resident Anne Barrett and is phase one of an overall plan to document the architectural heritage of Kenmare with the objective of promoting heritage awareness and
outlining guidelines for best practice conservation.
Architect Frank Hughes of frankarchitecture, who has previously
designed a heritage trail for Kenmare, has given advice on planning, maintenance and design of buildings and architectural details from the
period. This is particularly important, in light of the town’s historic core being designated an Architectural Conservation Area, to help promote and consolidate its economic standing as a heritage town.
This designation sets out simple guidelines which helps preserve and
reinforce the original character of the town, it has contributed to the
continued success of other planned heritage towns such as Westport.

The project is part funded by The Heritage Council and SKDP/Rural Alliance. Acknowledging also the backup support of KTTA and Kenmare Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
