Senator Mark Daly reports…

Following my request, HSE agrees to meeting with Kerry public representatives on issue of short stay and respite beds in Kerry community hospitals.
On the 9th of July I questioned the Minister for Health Leo Varadkar in the Senate on the the large number of vacant and unused beds in the community Hospitals through out Kerry, telling the Minister ‘there is an urgent and real need for these beds to be put into use… there are many patients who are in Tralee General and other hospitals in Cork and Limerick who should be and would prefer to be looked after closer to home. These patients would like to be closer to their families in our excellent community hospitals but the minister has failed to allocate the funds to hire the extra staff required. A small allocation of extra funds would allow the vacant beds in Kenmare, Caherciveen, Dingle, Killarney Tralee and Listowel to be filled. In his reply during the debate in July the Minister for Health said that a final report on the bed requirements at community hospital in Kerry would be completed and available shortly.
I look forward to this happening as soon as possible.
