Kenmare Men’s Shed just keeps getting better and better

Our usual correspondent is currently away and writing from Australian Mens Sheds, see article below, so we thought an update of our local shed activity was due.
We have just rebuilt and closed off our social/kitchen area from the main very well-equipped workshop. So now we have a nicer place to sit, chat and drink even more cups of tea (also a fancy new coffee machine!) and maybe throw a few darts when we get a board.
But with the good weather arriving we have changed things a little. We now meet for a full day for projects on Tuesdays from 10am to 4pm and cook up a bit of lunch to keep everybody smiling.
As for the other weekdays, we are putting together a few ad hoc groups for those who are
interested in enjoying the outdoors while the summer lasts: walking, fishing, sailing etc., whatever you fancy. These groups will meet up in town on the day/time that they decide and take off for the day/morning/afternoon. Of course if anyone is keen to work in the Shed on a particular project on other weekdays that can be arranged also, always providing at least 2 are present for safety reasons.
We are keen to spread the word to any men out there, who may not know that there is a place to go to relax and meet other welcoming people -particularly men living alone or feeling a little isolated. As our slogan says ‘Men talk shoulder-to-shoulder’. If you’d like to come along and check us out or know someone who could benefit please let them know. We recommend dropping by on Tuesdays as above.
We’ll welcome you with a cuppa and a natter so you can see if it fits the bill for you. You’ll see the range of skills we have in the shed, those who can’t hit a nail straight to those who fancy designing the next Trump Tower! If you have some skills or none you are very welcome and there are willing teachers – if you have a particular job in mind.
To see the Shed’s work beforehand, we have lots of photographs on our Facebook page of projects undertaken in past year, from nest boxes to rocking horses, boat repair, picture frames etc. Members have made these for themselves or taken an order from local person with something small in need of repair/replacement. (If you have a job we could help with, just drop in, we only seek a contribution towards time and materials.)
We have just finished an order BBQ tables for a local club, see the photos of these also on Facebook page ‘Kenmare Mens Shed’ that will give a good idea of the type of work we undertake for ourselves or members of the public.
We are easy to find at Gortamullen Ind. Estate on Mart Road (turn for Recycling Centre), take first left towards back entrance to John R’s, take last turn left, we are 2 doors down.
