Cllr McCarthy reports…

Kenmare Dental Clinic. Following a recent motion I put forward to Kerry county council regarding the re-opening of the HSE dental clinic in Kenmare, I received the following reply “Kenmare Dental Clinic was closed in 2012 due to staff retirements and the recruitment moratorium. All schoolchildren from the Kenmare area are accommodated in the Killarney clinic. A member of the Killarney clinic was allocated to the Kenmare schools and this remains the situation”. However I feel that this does not resolve the issue and I will continue to lobby for the re-opening of this clinic in Kenmare.
Kenmare Town. At a recent meeting where I had the opportunity to meet with the chief executive of Kerry County Council, I along with groups among the community were given the opportunity to raise issues which are affecting Kenmare town including parking, street trading, public toilet facilities and bus parking.
Blackwater Bridge. I would like to thank most sincerely members of An Garda Shiochana, fire brigade and Kerry county council workers for their swift work in repairing and re-opening this road which was damaged in a flash flood.
Farming. Silage wrap has risen by 25% in the last 5 years, I have asked Kerry County Council to raise this issue of increasing cost of silage wrap with the Minister of Agriculture.
Dog micro-chipping. I have asked Kerry County Council to waiver the dog license fee for one year due to the additional costs of micro-chipping dogs. I have also requested that those caught without a micro-chip be allowed an additional time of 6 months to rectify this before any fine can be issued
Roads. I have asked Kerry County Council to insist that hedges on all roads be maintained as this I feel is paramount to keeping our roads safe.
Drama. Well done and congratulations to the Blackwater drama group on such a fantastic production. Also to Sadhbh Moriarty who wrote a drama which was produced recently in the Carneigie Arts Centre best wishes in the future.
Ring of Beara cycle. Congratulations to all who took part and organised the ring of Beara cycle, an event which boosted the economy of the locality of Kenmare and was enjoyed by all.
Little Acorns preschool and crèche. I would like to congratulate all involved in little acorns as they celebrate 10 years open best wishes in the future. I was honoured to attend the celebrations.
Clinics. I am available every day in Kenmare Mart. I also hold clinics in south and west Kerry throughout the month. Cllr Dan Mc Carthy ,Kilcurrane East, Kenmare Co Kerry 087-6846513 087-2224411 (work number)
