This year Bright Sparks Montessori became one of only eight preschools in Kerry to be accredited as a Healthy Ireland Smart Start Health Promoting Preschool. The Smart Start programme covers 6 areas of health promotion; Oral Health, Personal Hygiene, Nutrition, Health & Safety, Physical Activity and Emotional Well-Being. Smart Start is a very holistic approach to developing positive attitudes towards health and well-being and where better to start than with our preschool children.
The children also took part in the annual toddle for Barnardos this year as they have done for the past 10 years on the 19th May. This year however, it was decided to climb a hill as part of the toddle in memory of Evan O’Sullivan and split the proceeds between Barnardos and The Jack & Jill Foundation. The children, teachers and their families headed to the Bonane Heritage Park and made it all the way to the top where they left off balloons and enjoyed a picnic. It was a great day and the children raised an amazing €1,900 which was shared equally between these two very deserving charities. We would like to thank Patsy O’Sullivan for all his help and the Bonane Heritage Park committee for allowing us to use their fantastic venue.
