Long, lean Summer comes to a close as KLAWS opens new shop

By the time you read this article KLAWS will have opened their new shop on the corner of the road opposite the Credit Union in Kenmare. We have had a long, lean Summer with a drop in income, BUT that has not stopped us working to full capacity in rescuing and re-homing unwanted animals and strays that have been brought in to us. We hope to report on the ‘Grand Opening’ next month!
However during this tough Summer, we have had a number of animals that have arrived to us already pregnant or we have taken in litters of kittens and puppies, because the adult animals have not had the ‘operation’. All we ask is that people take responsibility in getting their pets neutered and spayed. This would make all animal welfare groups main job of rescuing injured or abandoned animal a lot easier.
Also, we are still taking in roaming dogs that do not have dog tags on them or microchips in them. Please ask your local vet to microchip your dog as it in now the Law, and for a few euros buy a dog tag and put it on your dog. We can reunite you with your family pet sooner rather than later. If people continue to be negligent in caring for their animals, it will come to the stage that if your dog is brought in to KLAWS or any other Welfare group, that you will be expected to make a donation towards the kenneling or fostering, and for the time and effort that has been put in by volunteers caring for the lost pet. KLAWS must be able to focus on real animal welfare issues rather than the irresponsibility of the Public.
We had a very unusual visitor come to KLAWS recently. A male adult cat was found straying in Caherciveen. However, out of the goodness of their hearts he was fed by a local couple. The sad news is that the cat, an older boy named Michael, only has three legs. He was taken to a local vet and the diagnosis was the he may have actually been born this way. These kind people continued to feed Michael for two months but unfortunately he did not get on with their own cats. So it was with great regret that they had to call KLAWS to see if we could help. Luckily our lovely foster lady Dee, took him in and the good news is that he gets on well with her other foster kittens. He is very much an outdoor cat in spite of his disability, however we are hoping, with a ‘special’ home he may become a pampered puss. If you feel you can give “Micky Three Legs” his forever home please call KLAWS on 087 970 4480. A home check will be carried out.
For any animal welfare issue please call our designated mobile number above. We will try to respond sooner rather than later. In the meantime, we hope that you will call into the ‘KLAWS Cabin’ to shop, as any purchase small or large, of books, clothes, DVD’s or bric-a-brac will go towards helping our waifs and strays. We look forward to meeting customers old and new.
