Cllr Dan McCarthy reports..

Transport. I have asked that the Minister for Transport not to increase the price of diesel to petrol levels. I feel if this measure was implemented that it would have adverse effects to the rural communities of County Kerry who heavily rely on diesel for commuting and delivery.
Agriculture. The strict rules and regulations regarding the purchasing of animal tags from companies has led to only one company being allowed to supply these to farmers. I have asked that the Minister for Agriculture to introduce a system where all companies which can manufacture livestock tags be allowed supply tags for cattle. Due to the bad weather conditions that occurred during the summer and autumn has resulted in farmers been unable to spread slurry within the time frame which the EU have allocated. I asked that the Minister be notified of the problems that this time-frame has caused farmers and I am seeking that the time be extended.
Public Lighting. At the recent council meeting I have raised the issue of the lack of maintence been carried out to all public lighting. I have suggested that there is a policy is put in place that all lights should be repaired or replaced within a two week frame work of being reported. I have asked that public lighting be extended up to Ard Bhearna housing estate and to the 60K speed limit on the Kilowen road.
Flooding. As winter is approaching this means that the weather will worsen leaving more rain falling. I have asked that Kerry County Council prioritise flood prevention and flood relief throughout south Kerry due to these areas been prone to flooding.
Street Trading. Once again I have highlighted to Kerry County Council the urgency of regulations regarding the street trading in Kenmare.
Tidy Towns. Congratulations to all who are involved in the various tidy town groups throughout the south and west constituency. It is a marvellous achievement to see so many medals.
LEADER. I would like to welcome the announcement of the LEADER funding being made available. I hope that this would be of benefit the wider Kenmare area. Should you require assistance regarding this please contact me.
GAA. Best of luck to the Kenmare District team in the county final against Dr Crokes hopefully the result will be the same as it was in 1987. Congratulations to the Kerry minors who was captained by Sean O’Se on winning the All-Ireland minor title. Well done and thank you to all in Kenmare GAA who organised such welcoming home coming in Kenmare for this minor team.
South Kerry ploughing championship. Congratulations and well done to all involved in organising such a successful event I was honoured to be asked to assist with raising funds for such great causes. I would like to thank all those who assisted with the Kenmare Mart trade stand.
Sean O’Sullivan memorial sheep shearing. Well done to all shearers who took part in a recent fundraiser for pieta house in Cloghane recently. It was a fun filled day for all who attended for such a worthy cause.
Strictly come dancing. I would like to announce that I will once again be taking part in a strictly come dancing performance, this time for Dromid GAA club. The event will be taking place on 5th November in Waterville. All support welcome.
