Drum Magic Kenmare Keeping the beat one year on!

In the early months of 2016, we decided to set up a drum circle for adults, to meet on a weekly basis for the month of April. We had been doing workshops for kids for two years at this point, and a lot of parents had expressed an interest in trying the drums for themselves. So we decided to set up a series of four and this four week pilot project went so well that we are still going, one year on!
We meet every Monday evening at the Kenmare Family Resource Centre on Railway Road. Their warm and comfortable meeting room is perfect, as it has good seating and facilities for the all-important cup of tea. We have loads of drums for people to try, and some people bring their own too.
There is a mix of skill levels, as people are come and go from the group. This keeps it very casual and low stress, as we regularly go back over the basics to help people catch up. We learn new rhythms together, and we make up our own. Drumming has been proven to lower blood pressure, and to help with anxiety and other mental health challenges. It’s a great way to deal with stress too, so we all get to start the week on a good note.
If you have ever thought you would like to try drumming, or if you are looking for a new hobby or social outlet, you are welcome to come along. Contact Maggie on 086 4003551 to find out more, or find the group on Facebook at Drum Magic Kenmare. image-1
