Cllr Dan McCarthy reports…

I have again asked Kerry County Council as a matter of urgency to resurface the road from Kilkeanna cross to Kenmare, and also for the urgent funding for upgrading works on the Ballaghbeama road leading to Coom. I have a requested that there be a speed limit of 30 KPH be put in place at Lauragh National School.

Ceann Mara.
I put forward a motion to Kerry county council to either purchase to lease the old Ceann Mara plastic factory yard to be used as additional bus parking or social housing.

Public Lighting.
I have been informed that there is a new public lighting policy been introduced in the near future. This will ensure that all broken public lights will be fixed or replaced within 12 working days.

I will be raising the issue of lack of facilities for young teenagers in towns and villages. I feel that it is important that these groups in society be provided with a safe environment such as a youth café.

The demand for cattle is high and so are prices which huge demands for exports. Most of the sheep have lambed at this stage and hopefully the prices will match the crop of lambs that are available. As the fine weather continues a lot of work is being done on farms, but unfortunately the out of season burning is continuing I have been put on record of asking for an extension to the burning season to at least the first of April, as this will give a chance to get control burning done.

Rally of the Lakes.
Congratulations to all those who took part in the recent rally of the lakes. In particular to the two local drivers Shane McCarthy who won the junior section and Vincent O’Shea who won his category. Thank you to all the supporters and followers of this event for obeying safety stewards at all times which meant that this rally was ran smoothly.

Darkness into Light.
I would like to thank all those who took part, volunteered and donated to make the first darkness into light walk in Kenmare such a success. There were over 530 people registered for this walk which shows how strong and united our rural community is.

I am available every day in Kenmare Mart.
I also hold clinics in south and west Kerry throughout the month.
