Busy times at Neidin Indoor Bowls Club

Much has happened since we last reported. Early Spring saw the start of a new year at the club. At the A.G.M. held on the 20th February it was time to reflect on the events and successes of the previous year and as is customary elect members for the committee. Aiden McCabe was a popular choice to remain as Chairman, Sue Eccles as Secretary, Treasurer Alan Shaw and Sue Harris as Club Public Relations Officer. The Club extended special thanks to Vera Shaw our outgoing Secretary.
On a sad note our deepest sympathy is with the family and friends of Jenny Butler, a former member, who recently passed away in March. She will be missed by all. R.I.P.
The Sean Chairde Friendly Bowls League Kerry is drawing to a climax having extended the competition to the end of April. You will recall that Neidin Bowls Club has 3 teams all doing very well and hoping to go into the final play off at a neutral venue yet to be announced. Good luck to all involved.
A number of our club members had a very enjoyable 4 night stay in Waterford at the end of February, where we had a very warm welcome at Ballybeg Indoor Bowls Club in the St. Saviour’s community complex. We were invited to play Small Bowls which is played with bowls about half the size of regular bowls. We adapted very well and had a very happy time there. Our hosts then joined us at the hotel for an evening of music and dancing.
Three of our members also attended the Active Retirement Ireland initial training day for the Go For Life Games that has been extended throughout Ireland. This comprises of three games specially adapted for indoor sport and exercise for older people. The games are Scidils, Lobbers and Flisk. This year 15 counties including Kerry will have teams taking part in an all Ireland National Competition to be held in Dublin on the 16th June. 9 players from the club have been invited to train further, to potentially provide 3 teams for the competition.
Our club also had a super training day in cork last month with instruction being provided by All Ireland veteran Jack Lynch. We hope to take the techniques, learnt on the day, back to the club for practice to further improve our standing in future play.

Neidin Bowls Club meets every Monday and Thursday 10.45 -1.00pm at the GAA Sports Complex in Kenmare. Newcomers, experienced or beginners always welcome. Please come and join us. For Further information telephone Aiden 086 0409555
