Thank you to everyone who came to our Wedding Trail weekend on February 3rd and 4th. We had a great time chatting to the people who came along. It is lovely to hear why people who are not from Kenmare want to get married here, it makes us very grateful to live in such a beautiful part of the country. A big thank you to Derry Murphy form Supervalu and Una Brennan of Brook Lane hotel who allowed us use of their premises. To Rob from Kenmare Furniture and Willowfield Garden Centre who kitted out the Wedding Lounge for us, to musicians Reel Women and Kit McCafferty who played up a storm in Crowley’s Bar and to Nick Cavanagh and Rosin O’Sullivan for the use of images. Dromquinna Wedding
The next few months are jam packed with activities, we really will be the fittest town in Ireland by the end of 2018! The first Quest Kenmare event is taking place on Saturday March 10th. This sold out event showcases some of the spectacular scenery that Kenmare has to offer, kayaking along the Kenmare Bay, and running and cycling in Gleninchaquin Park and the Bonane Heritage Park, hopefully it will help everyone get through it!
We are looking for some volunteers to help out with Quest and while it can be daunting to volunteer at first, it is also a lot of fun. It is a great way to get out, meet people and get involved in your community. So if you can help out with any of the times listed below please give us a ring on 064 6642615 or email us at marketing@kenmare.ie.
On Easter Saturday, the 31st March, we have the Bridge Run. This is a local event run by the Kenmare Athletics club that is growing in popularity every year. It starts off with a very popular 1 mile fun run for Children. Then once the Children have finished their run and are tucking into some post run goodies the adult events begin. There are two courses on offer a 5km and a 10km, so there is something for everyone. All proceeds that are raised through this event are reinvested back into Club facilities. So whether you want to try running it or you want to just walk it please come along and support it.
Market Trading.
The appeals to the 24th of July, 2017 decision by Judge James O’Connor regarding the regulation of Market Trading in Kenmare have been withdrawn. As a result the District Court order stands. Kerry County Council will move to begin works in Kenmare square as soon as possible. Kenmare Chamber of commerce is delighted to see the end of what has been a very long drawn out legal dispute.
Going to a great market is one of the high lights of a visitor’s experience and the local food producers and artists of Kenmare’s surrounding area offer everything that is needed to build the Kenmare market into an attraction in its own right. We look forward to working with everyone to make that possibility a reality.
Fáilte Ireland is looking for local input as it works to develop a ‘Visitor experience development plan’ for the area from Kenmare to Ballydehob. While we now have the Wild Atlantic Way, Fáilte Ireland believes that each area on the route has a unique story to tell. In order to build a cohesive narrative of each area Fáilte Ireland are hosting a series of workshops running from 12th-20th February. Local tourism businesses, tourism and community group members, as well as all other interested parties and individuals, are invited to take part. The Kenmare meeting takes place on Tuesday 20 February from 7pm – 9pm in the Brook Lane Hotel.
