Kenmare Shamrocks GAA

District U21 County Final. A great night in Fitzgerald Stadium last Wednesday as the District team eked out a two point win over a fine St. Kieran’s team. It was a fantastic match (as the scoreline of 3-11 to 2-12 would suggest) which had pretty much everything, including three penalties for Kenmare. Brian Crowley missed the first, very confidently dispatched the second and in evening light in Fitzgerald Stadium, with the District one point in arrears, struck the third and decisive penalty to the net to give Kenmare the lead in injury-time.
There were two more frantic minutes til the final whistle blew but St. Kieran’s could not find a way to a score thanks to a very disciplined rear-guard effort and the scene’s afterwards on the pitch were to be savoured. Well done to the team on a fine victory and to the management team of Pat Spillane, Teddy Harrington, Tom O’Connor and Mike Crowley.
Hurling. SKJH Final
Kenmare Shamrocks 2-14 Austin Stacks 0-12
At the end of last month the Shamrocks hurlers won the South Kerry title with a good win over the Stacks. A very tight match was settled in the last fifteen minutes when Kenmare pulled away with a string of six points with Brian O’Sullivan’s fine goal putting the result beyond doubt. Well done to the management and team.
Cul Camp. Great to see so many kids doing this years’ Cul Camp, which was the largest in the county with 128 kids enjoying the fun at Fr. Breen park. The club would like to offer condolences to the family of the ever-popular Vince Cooper who was as always down at the camp, on the death of his mother, Maureen.
Summer is coming to an end, the 15th of August come and gone and perhaps someone from the club is €5000 richer thanks to our club Lotto! If not, the pot will be €5100 next time round and many thanks to those who are supporting the club by buying tickets every week.
Training for the various underage teams will be starting again soon so keep an eye on Kenmare Shamrocks GAA Facebook page and as always any photo’s or news can be posted there or to pro.kenmare.kerry@gaa.ie or to jimmcgann18@eircom.net.
