‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ screens in Kenmare

On Friday 17th October at 8 pm, Carnegie Arts Centre will host a screening of ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’, a dark revenge tale with more than a hint of a Western, set and shot in County Kerry. Written and directed by Kenmare native Patrick Ryan, the film tells the story of Cleo Callahan, a troubled teenaged sharpshooter who strives to avenge the brutal murder of her estranged sister, blind to the fact the killer is her best and only friend.

Festival Success
‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ was filmed in August 2013, entirely in Kerry, split largely between Kenmare and Listowel. The multi-award winning script was produced by Lagoon Pictures, the production company founded by Patrick and Tommy Fitzgerald. It stars Emma Eliza Regan (Love Eternal, Jack Taylor, Get Up and Go), Emma Willis and Brian Gleeson (The Stag, Love/Hate). It is currently in the middle of a highly successful film festival run; it premiered in July at the renowned Galway Film Fleadh to rave reviews, following up with the Sky Road Film Festival in Clifden and the Underground Film Festival in Dublin. The screening in the Carnegie comes a week after a special showing at the Kerry Film Festival, and there are no doubt many more to come.

Local Talent
The production utilised a host local talent and locations. Musician Alex Ryan, currently touring the world with rising Irish star Hozier, composed the score for the film. JJ Sullivan served as Co-Producer and Key Grip, while on the other side of the camera, local talent Cailla O’Shea, Eilise Sullivan, Barry Healy, Pierce O’Connell, Ellie Gudgeon and Aoife O’Shea all put in great performances. Scenes were shot at Rinn na Gcros, the Adult Education Centre, the Square Pint, the Commercial Bar, Vibe Nightclub, Cromwell Bridge and Bonane, as well as utilising the best of the stunning local scenery, with a view to putting Kerry on the map as a definitive and unique filming location.
