anniversary and International Women’s Day with a party for members and friends in Blackwater Tavern. There was a great turn out with about 45 women enjoying cheese and wine, cake and refreshments in a relaxed social setting and an opportunity for newcomers to the area to meet their neighbours, get an introduction to the activities of the group and information on upcoming classes and events. A slide show gave a glimpse into the large body of work and achievements of the group over the last twenty years including their Special Award in the 2018 Pride of Place Competition an all-island competition that acknowledges the wonderful work in our communities.
Their success is down to ‘keeping up with the times’ and responding to the needs of the women at a given time. Education and training provided reflects that such as the computer (IT) classes they organised when computers were new, similarly they provided Zoom training and adapted to online classes during the pandemic and are introducing education on Biodiversity and Climate change shortly.
Those attending were asked to complete a short survey giving feedback on what they would like to get from the group, be it education and training, activities or social events. It was a great night, everyone enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect with the group and with each other and celebrate the anniversary and successes to date on International Womens Day.
